plonq: (Ack!)

I broke down at lunch today and left work on a holy quest for Twinkies.  My brain was being flooded all day with idyllic memories of tender golden sponge cakes and creamy filling, and I finally couldn't take it any more.

I procured my Twinkies and brought them back to the office so that I could enjoy them over a cup of tepid, stale coffee (the beverage of choice to go with Twinkies).  I tore away the plastic wrapping and sunk my teeth into the golden, spongy goodness.

Bleah.

Either they have changed the recipe since the last time I had these, or my memories have become clouded with time.

I too, remember Twinkies as being good. Lately, since the infernal vending machine at work has them, I buy the occasional pack. And they are often very dissapointing. And never great. Has our memories embelished their alledged goodness?

Remember the saying, "Hunger is the best sauce"? Try 'em hungry.

It is possible that older taste buds are also more discriminating taste buds. When you are young, beer n' kibble is palatable.

Younger people have higher energy needs, and so Twinkies might taste a bit different to someone with higher caloric needs.

Or, yeah, they have changed the taste.
