plonq: (Predatory Mood)

Usually when I build an application, it is to fill an existing need.  Sometimes, though, the unbridled visionary in me manages to produce a program that precedes any actual need for it.

And so I'm thinking wow, I could sound so 1337 and erudite if I had a random, King James Bible verse available to quote in this situation.  It would be like, "WWJD if he was controlled by a set of polyhedral dice?"

The result is a VB application that looks like this:

Hit me with the good word!

When you click the button (on the application itself, not this picture) it quotes a random book and verse, and dumps it to your clip board for ease of import into your company correspondence.  I'm sure there are a few dozen web sites out there that offer this service, but this one has the distinction of being all mine *purr*

*sheepish grin*
You know your clientel well.
I'm not going to tell you how many times I *clicked* on that button before the text below it soaked into my feeble brain.

I actually had myself in mind when I added that bit of text. I looked at the preview in Semagic and thought, "You know... the first thing I'd do if I saw that on a web page is try clicking the button."

I did too. Thank god it didn't bring me to some porn site, or install spyware.... or did it?

#1: Where did you get the verses from, did you just grab a selection of them or what? If a database, where's the database at?
#2: Can I get a copy of that, even though I don't do the biblical stuff, the phrases are all really cool!

#1: I just did a search for downloadable, ascii KJ bibles and then wrote a little program to generate some VB source code from the books and verses.

#2: It's not that big. If you can give me an email (or Gmail, or whatever) address I can just send it to you as an attachment (a couple of MB in size)
