Found it!

I've been trying to track down this song for a couple of years without success. The problem is that I had no idea what the song was called, nor who it was by.

I knew that it came out sometime in the late 80s.
I knew the tune.
I could remember a fragment of lyrics.

Google and Kazaa finally came through.

Hehe, I've had a couple of tracks like that, which took decades to formulate in my mind and eventually track down. Some where all I knew was a fragment of lyric, one particular one I didn't even remember that much, till someone quoted the lyrics at random on IRC and suddenly *blam*.

There was a hilarious episode of 'Married with children' that dwelt on this subject, Al Bundy just remembers this lyric fragment and the intonation, something like '..go with him..'. They find a shop with this genius guy, sing any kind of lyric to him, no matter how short or obscure, he names the song. Al goes up, the guy doesn't know it :P. By the end of the episode he eventually finds the song :)
