plonqCould we, as a species, become any more wilfully ignorant or stupid?
One of our senior managers contacted me yesterday regarding some old data, and he asked to know where it was stored.
I sent him a list of the people who receive the report every month and said that unless one of them was keeping the figures, then he's out of luck because we don't store the data anywhere. I asked which months of data he needed specifically, because our only option at this point was to re-run the reports for the months he needed and recreate the data because we don't store the data anywhere.
He replied this morning that he needs the data for 2004 year to date, so he really needs to know where the data is stored. I have a long list of ready replies that could jeopardize my job. Bleah.
I have discovered that reading some of the LJ communities is a good way to catch glimpses into the lives of stupid people too. My liver does the funky chicken when I read a barely-literate, misspelled rant by somebody complaining about how they have to deal with stupid people all the time. I want to jump in, shake them by their virtual lapels and say, "Can you SEE the IRONY of the situation here?" [Nobody is forcing you to read those communities, Plonq.] [Shut-up brain.]
And speaking of stupid... we spent way more than we intended last night on Halloween gear. We're usually pretty good about estimating how much we're spending, but last night our guess was short by a factor of 2. It's not that we're broke, or miserly, but I hate losing track of our spending that badly. On the other hand these costumes are wicked cool.
