As I was taking the walkway from City Place to the library enroute to my bus stop, I paused to read a little sign on the door. I have been meaning to comment on this sign on more than one occasion because it bothers me.

The sign bears the innocuous message, "These doors are locked at 12:30 daily."

This is obviously good information to know. If one is stumbling drunkenly through the overhead walkways late at night then one knows to take the outside exit at that point. On the other hand it leaves open a very important question; when do they unlock the doors again?

They have sure up a start condition for a change in state, but no end condition. What if they unlock them again at 12:31? Should one just stand there trying them over and over again if one arrives there at 12:30:01?

is it am or pm?

Without that added data they could just a easily lock the doors during the day as well as in the middle of the night. :=/

That's a good point. Without a modifier for AM or PM, the safest assumption is that it is based on a 24-hour clock, or (as you suggest) an event that takes place twice daily.

That sign is just sloppy on too many levels.
