Here is a peek at my half-assed way of eating leaner and healthier. My lunch today includes:

1 Granny Smith apple - approx 81 calories, 0 grams of fat.
Cheddar Cheese (about 20g) - approx 81 calories, 7 grams of fat.
Danactive Strawberry-Banana Drink - 80 Calories, 2 grams of fat.
Ocean's Tuna SnacKit Antipasto -150 calories, 5 grams of fat.
Safeway Organic French-Vanilla Yoghurt - approx 70 calories, 2 grams of fat.
Granola - Approx 200 calories, 3 grams of fat.
PC Dipped 7 Chewy Granola Bar - 140 Calories, 5 grams of fat.
Oasis Wild Berries/Pomegranate Juice - 130 Calories, 0 grams of fat.

Total: about 942 calories and 24 grams of fat.

That's not bad in terms of fat and calories, but it's also a lunch without a central theme. There's no real "main" course, just a bunch of snack things. What will happen is that I will end up snacking on it over the course of the morning and then I'll go for a brisk walk at noon to distract myself from the fact that I'm out of food.

I don't think I'd actually trot out the word "diet" for what I am doing, since for the most part I am just watching what I eat and trimming out some of the excess. There are times that I even feel like I am gaming the system a bit, purposely understating some of the foods that I eat in order to feel less guilty about eating them.

On the other hand, yesterday I accidentally cinched up my belt to its smallest setting when I put it on, and recently I have started wearing pants and shirts that I haven't touched in a couple of years because they were too tight. The pounds may not be exactly melting away, but I'm seeing modest gains in spite of myself.

Most importantly I can feel the difference every time I get up and move around. I may never be not not homely, but if I keep at this long enough I may eventually end up not obese.
