Computer pest

Gah!  I have concluded that I am definitely not cut out for tech support.  Try and imagine the frustration of explaining to somebody how to wire up four IDE devices on his system when  he's one step removed from thinking that electricity is a form of Voodoo.  There's 35 minutes of my day shot.

...

Addendum:  Argh!  Now he just phoned me again for further clarification - though this time it seems that some of what I drew for him on the white board actually sunk in.  I guess he'd been pondering over his little wiring diagram and it suddenly occurred to him that by wiring it up the way I suggested he'd be able to add more devices.  I'm... impressed.

I still say that people who don't know anything about computers have no business tinkering with them. Unless, of course, they want to break and ruin them, that is. Usually I ask if they tinker with their car's engine if they don't know what's what and why they'd do the same thing with their computer.

But, to be honest, isn't that how most of us learned how to tinker with them in the first place? :)

Yes and no. I encourage people to experiment, with the disclaimer that they should make sure they back up their vital data first. As long as they are not ripping out hardware and swapping plugs there's not much they can to that a reformat and reinstall can't fix. Breaking stuff is one of the fastest learning tools.

"Whoa, bummer. I sure won't do THAT again."

I see you have some frustration music on.
(or is it more "crush and destroy!"?)

May I suggest, by same artist:
"Die You Bastard!"
"Traitor"
"Dead Men Tell No Tales" (nor ask stupid questions...)
"I Am The Sword"
"No Class"
"Dancing On Your Grave"

..you get the picture. :)

I'll have a look around for some of those. Today I just popped in a "greatest hits" CD that I bought a few years back and was listening to that. I was never really a fan of Motorhead until (comparatively) recently.

Greatest Hits? The "No Remorse" compilation?
When I got into Motorhead, 11 years ago (already!?!), I listened to nothing
but for 2 weeks straight. Drove my dance-music-loving jock roommate bonkers. :)

I was biasing my choices at (l)user-hostile titles, although, being memorable
they are good tracks.

Lots of Motorhead albums are live shows and compilations of old Bronze Records
recordings, so there is significant duplication...

Also memorable tracks:
"Killed By Death"
"Vibrator"
"Capricorn" (think of B5 "Thirdspace" when you hear this one...)
"Make My Day"
"I'm So Bad (Baby, I don't care)"
"I Got Mine"
"(Don't Need) Religion"
"Talking Head" (warning: earworm)
"(We Are) The Roadcrew"

Yeah....I'm a Motorhead fan, can you tell? :)
