plonq: (Creepy Mood)
[personal profile] plonq
I bought this toy back in 1994 or 95, when Lion King toys were readily available in most stores. I think I found this one at the Disney Store and bought it specifically because it was creepy. It is battery-powered, and motion sensitive. You can set it to "guardian" mode, which causes it to animate when somebody passes within a meter or two of it. When it activates, its head rotates unnaturally and it says things like, "Who are you? You don't belong here!"

I wanted the detail fairly sharp in this picture, so I shot it with an aperture of f/13.0 at a full 2 seconds. The lighting was pretty good, but I enhanced the contrast a bit anyway to bring out the lines a bit more. Obviously I also converted it to black and white. I tried a couple of different calculations for the b&w conversion, using red/green calculations, green/red calculations and an aborted red/blue attempt. On a whim I did up a quick gradient overlay as well. When I flipped through them a few times after I decided that the simple overlay did the best job of it. More often than not I find that to be the case. I only keep with the calculations because I read somewhere that purists prefer that method.

The last thing I did was crop the picture fairly aggressively and resize it down to fit the screen.
