I managed to convert another person over to Firefox this morning.  Well, at least she's agreed to try it after getting hit by one of the (many) IE exploits.  I don't know of anyone who's taken my recommendation and later switched back, so I'll chalk it up as a success.

You should try and convert tktiger or award (specifically this entry), they're more insanely against it than anyone I've ever known :)

Although I will offer the browser up as an alternative, and do my best to pitch it on its features, I won't try to browbeat somebody who doesn't want to install or use it. So far the only people I know who have considered, and then decided to stay with IE are the ones who are informed enough to know how to secure IE against most of the exploits, and can deal with it if their system gets hit.

The sad thing is that it's not THAT difficult to harden IE. I switched to Firefox more for the features than over any pressing concern for security.
