It was a pretty simple question:
"Should we be doing SHOP interchanges at the repair facilities?"
I had heard discussion a couple of months back that this was the case, but I wanted to find out if the change had been implemented. I needed to know for a report that I am building. My first stop was to talk to The Guy Who Would Know ™
It turns out that he is on vacation. A Nice Person Who Is Not Involved ™ suggested that I should talk to the person who is replacing him. Let's call her Agent Smith.
Agent Smith: I don't know. They just stuck me on this desk job to keep the seat warm. Oh, I know - talk to Agent Orange. She runs this department and She would know.
Agent Orange: I haven't a living clue what you are talking about, but I'll look up some unrelated records if that would help.
While she sifted blindly through some unrelated records I decided to go talk to The Lady Who Should Know Because She Would Have Helped Implement It ™. She was on the phone in what sounded like an endless conference call. I turned instead to address The Assistant Who Might Know Because She Maintains The Tables ™, but aside from telling me that all of the tables were valid she had no clue if it was actually an active procedure. She also assured me that The Lady Who Should Know Because She Would Have Helped Implement It ™ would be on the phone and unavailable for the rest of the day, and the rest of the year didn't look too good either.
I checked back with Agent Orange, but the unrelated records were unhelpful.
I tracked down The Guy Who Manages The Area In Question ™, but the whole concept of shop interchanges was foreign to him. I asked him obliquely if he had any idea what his staff were doing, or at least should have been doing and he told me that he had other concerns. I went to talk to his boss, but he was on vacation. I managed to collar The Guy Who Manages Another Area Where They Should Be Doing This Stuff ™, but he told me that he doesn't know, nor care one way or the other because the only car shop in his area closed up shop early last month.
He told me that I should to go talk to A Guy Who Seems To Know Something About It ™.
I talked to him. He knew something about it in concept and theory, but didn't know if it has actually been implemented yet. He suggested that I talk to Another Guy Who Seems To Know Something About It ™, but he was in all-day meetings. I tried to track down his boss, but he was off gallivanting about with The Director.
I then manage to track down Somebody Who Is Peripherally Affected ™. He didn't have a Fucking Clue ®, but he told me that my best bet would be to speak with The Guy Who Isn't Here Yet And Nobody Seems To Know If He Is Coming In Today ™, or his boss... who is on vacation.
That settles it. I'm not going to run the fucking report this month.
