This week I learned something new.
Mar. 29th, 2008 12:33 pmWhile trying to match some records in Oracle, I learned that two does not equal two for some values of two -- even if you use the same function to extract the values from the same record types. Additionally, truncating the records does not help, nor does converting them to strings, integers, or any other data format that comes to mind.
It turns out that the only solution is to Alt-F4 out of the application and surf the web for awhile on company time until you feel guilty enough to give it one more try. This will cause the records to match perfectly on the next try, even though you have not changed anything. The moral of this story? I need to spend more time surfing the web on company time.
This has been a nasty March for weather. It came in like a lion, and if this is what it considers "going out like a lamb" then this is the meanest, most pugnacious lamb I have ever met. We are rounding out another cold cold snap with the promise of driving wind, rain, and another 6" of snow.
