Music trivia answers
Jun. 28th, 2007 06:57 amI had figured at the start that about half of these would be answered correctly, and it appears that I was not far off with my prediction. The rest of them were either too old, or too obscure. I've expanded on the ones that nobody got - in most cases just adding the next line or two from the song. If you want to take a final stab at it with this new information, the original is here.
Obviously if you reply to this post, you'll have the answers right in your face as you're replying, which removes much of the challenge.
2) I'm a wolf child, girl, howlin' for you.
___ ___, star of my dreams, the most beautiful thing, yeah.
3) Lousy lovers -- pick their prey but they never cry out loud.

4) It's the return of the... "Ah, wait, no way, you're kidding, he didn't just say what I think he did, did he?"
And Dr. Dre said... nothing you idiots! Dr. Dre's dead, he's locked in my basement! (Ha-ha!)
7) I was dreaming of the past, and my heart was beating fast.
I began to lose control. I began to lose control. I didn't mean to hurt you. I'm sorry that I mad you cry.
11) Have you ever been a victim in a violent fight when you know it's not true and you know it's not right?
If there's a place to be why don't you come with me? Listen to your father, listen to your brother.
(I still don't expect anyone to get this one.)
13) But I've got some news for you, I hope it don't hit you too hard.
One of these days while you're at play I'm gonna catch you off guard. I'm gonna ___ ___ ___ ___ pretty soon.
14) The love we had has fallen, the love we used to share. We've given up pretending as if you didn't care.
Change changing places, root yourself to the ground. Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round; _____.
16) They want... to give her 7 years for being sad.
I love all of you hurt by the cold. So hard and lonely too when you dont know yourself.
18) Now, every time that I come home nobody wants to let me be. Seems that all the friends I've got just got to come interrogate me.

19) She's like a beautiful thing, but baby, here's the sting; You should have taken off your wedding ring 'Cause it's ___ ___.
20) We at war with society, racism, terrorism - mostly though, we at war with ourselves.
I'm not going to bother expanding on these last two because they are pretty obscure.
1) Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street
Best sax rift in a pop song, IMO.
2) The Cult - Wild Flower
Where are they now?
3) Fleetwood Mac - Gold Dust Woman
A little surprised that nobody got this one.
4) eminem - The Real Slim Shady
Ditto for this one.
5) Jethro Tull - Cross-Eyed Mary
6) Kiss - Rock & Roll All Night
One of the first 45s I ever owned. Had the studio version on one side, and the live version on the other.
7) John Lennon - Jealous Guy
Not his best known solo piece.
8) Doobie Brothers - Black Water
9) Gordon Lightfoot - Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
10) Men at Work - Land Down Under
11) Electronic - Feel Every Beat
I'd never heard of this band or song, but I saw this in a recommended listening list. Very catchy song.
12) Tone Loc - Funky Cold Medina
13) Paul Young - I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down
I am not terribly surprised that nobody got this one.
14) Yes - Changes
Everyone knows their songs when they hear them, but who pays attention to the lyrics?
15) Bruce Springsteen - Hungry Heart
This one was pretty easy.
16) Red Hot Chili Peppers - My Friends
I admit that I didn't give much to go on from this one. It was tricky finding lyrics that didn't give the song away too readily.
17) Neil Diamond - Forever in Blue Jeans
I had not heard this song in years until I saw an ad for Gap jeans, with some guy sitting on a stool singing it.
18) Lynyrd Skynyrd - Don't Ask Me No Questions
One of their more obscure songs. A snippet from Sweet Home Alabama would have been easier to guess.
19) The Dysfunctionals - Payback Time
I had no illusions that anyone would get this one or the next one. I first heard it in a European car ad that featured anthropomorphic mice ransoming somebody's cat back to them. Cute ad, catchy song.
20) Kayne West - Jesus Walks
The movie trailers for Jarhead featured this song. I heard it, liked it, and tracked it down.
That's it, that's all. Thanks for playing!
