Today will be my first full day back out on the floor after spending the last five years in a small, windowless office. While it will be nice to have something approximating daylight while I work, the lack of privacy is going to drive me up the wall. People have no qualms about quietly walking up behind you and staring over your shoulder while you work (or while you type out a quick journal entry). Maybe some aren't bothered by that kind of privacy invasion, but it drives me up the wall.

Noise is going to be another issue. I am going from a quiet, semi-private office to an open pod where I have been seated with two of the loudest, most-annoying people in the office. While one of them is just loud, the other is loud, opinionated and argumentative. I bought a set of those ear-blasters on the weekend that you drive deep into your ear canals and pump music directly into your brain. It may not entirely drown them out, but at least it will let me tune them out.

Fortunately I start work a couple of hours before anyone else in this area, so I have a bit of time to catch up on LJ (and also get a good start on the work I am actually being paid to do) before the noise and interruptions start. Other people have dealt with working in this open-cubicle environment, so I am sure that I will adapt.

In other news...

We finally downed Illhoof last night -- and he dropped junk. Downing him had become a personal obsession with our raid leader, so we tried it again and again and again, adopting slight strategy changes as we went. We finally dropped him with the standard strategy; that is, we burnt down the imp to a couple of percent health, waited for the chains, then killed the imp once the chains were dealt with and went all-out on the boss for the full 30-seconds while he had the damage de-buff. We'd toyed with a couple of other methods that might have worked if we had got full buy-in from the raiding party. Alas, there were a couple of folks who simply refused to buy in, and as a result we ended up with split DPS through crucial parts of the fight. Anyway, we've downed him now, so he should be on farm status, right?

We had a bit of a delay while we waited for our temporary MT to show up. Our main tank has been off this weekend, so we'd invited a protection paladin along for the job. He and his wife (a mage) had recently joined the guild. We gave him about fifteen minutes past raid time before the raid leader brought in a druid for the spot and moved our MA to the MT spot. I had a look at our guild roster between pulls and noticed that this guy and his wife were no longer in the guild. It appears they quietly transferred their characters off the server sometime in the middle of the night without bothering to mention to anyone that they were doing so. Ah well, no great loss. The guy was mostly worthless as a tank - couldn't seem to adjust his positioning in a fight if his life depended on it (which it did).

I mentioned that Illhoof dropped junk? His trash mobs re-spawned during our final attempt, and as we were clearing our way back out again (so that we could get in a single try on a new boss) one of them dropped a really sweet piece of epic rogue gear. That's one of the odd things I've noticed about Kara -- the best loot seems to come from the trash mobs.

It was Tahkasis and Hellayna, the husband and wife team who'd recently joined. He came along as a replacement MT on our Friday Kara run. As far as we all knew he was coming along on the Sunday run as well, but the two of them quietly transfered off the server sometime between then and last night. The first we learned of it was when he didn't show up for Sunday's run.

No great loss IMO -- for him at least; he was a mediocre tank. A lot of our wipes on Prince were because he was incapable of adapting and moving when we needed him to.

My office (well, the first floor anyway) is nothing but open cubicles. I feel your pain!
