Whisky, Tango, ...
Jan. 2nd, 2007 08:27 amAlas, all good things come to an end. Although technically Foxtrot is just switching from a daily to a weekly format, for all practically purposes it's the end of the comic. It seems to be the mark of a good comic that the creator quits at the top of the curve. Bloom County, Far Side, Calvin & Hobbes are all examples of comics that died too soon, IMO. While the selfish part of me is bummed about losing my daily fix of Foxtrot, I can understand what would induce an artist to go out while he's at his peak. Nobody wants to be remembered as that person who "should have retired years ago" (I seem to remember Carol Burnett saying something about that when she retired from her top-rated show. It's better to go out at the top.)
I just find it a shame that a wonderful comic like Foxtrot ends before its time, while a worthless waste of paper and ink like Garfield seems to endure forever.
Anyway, thanks for the years of laughs Bill. Good luck with whatever it is you decide to do with your life from here.
(Now we're off to pack the cat off to the vet to have a couple more teeth removed. Joy.)
