Looks like it's going to be another day of sticking my fingers in the leaking levee, but before the workload gets over my head again, here are a couple of quick links.

Whilst it's all done in the name of promoting their product, it's still amusing to watch movies of Nike firing golf balls through everything from chocolate bunnies to lava lamps. It's all caught on high-speed film so that you won't miss a single wiggle or shard of the explosions.

The second link is another news story about a group who is erecting a graven image in stone The Ten Commandments in front of a government court house.

I skimmed through a discussion thread about it where the usual suspects vented their opinions and grievances.

What's wrong with it?
Why do you people hate America?
Why just The Ten Commandments? Why not put up The Beatitudes as well?
If you're going to do that, you may as well include the Code of Hammurabi too...

One of the wags in the discussion raised an interesting thought. He pointed out that the problem with the other codes is that they expect positive action, while The Ten Commandments demand an absence of action. The others imply that you should get out there and do something to be a better person and a better neighbour, whereas The Ten Commandments simply tell you what not to do. You can obey them by doing nothing.

It's the difference between saying "I'm a good person because I'm not stealing your coat." and saying "Here, take my coat, you look cold."

And on a related, yet also unrelated note:

I know I should laugh, but I did anyway.
I can't recite more than about 3-4 of the commandments, but then again I don't give a shit about them.

The reason is that today's Christians would rather NOT DO WRONG instead of DOING RIGHT.

The Beatitudes are the statements of "Thou shalt be awesome unto one another" instead of "Thou shalt not be a douche."

I prefer the Beatitudes, but if I have to take the whole religion I take UU. UU says: Don't be a douche and DO be awesome to one another.

Screw the Ten Commandments, let's have the 20 rules of Cthulhu.
