Subject: I'm a big doofus

Dear Plonq,

Please examine the attached spreadsheet with accompanying graphs and take special note of the four days in October for which there does not appear to be any data as a result of an extended database outage.  How do you plan to rectify this?

Yours Truly,
The Big Boss

Dear Big Boss,

Subject: Re: Four days of missing data

Upon closer examination of the attached spreadsheet and graphs, I am forced to conclude that these are the same four days of missing data which we discussed at some length last week.  Since that was almost three days ago, I will reiterate the results of that selfsame discussion.

As you recall, you are the owner of this data, and it was me that approached you about these missing records last week to see if there was a recovery plan in place for the missing data.  You informed me at the time that the lead team had made a conscious decision to not back-fill records in the event of an outage such as this.  You explained about the mediocre five-day service level agreement from the vendor1, and the shortage of resources available to the department for back-filling the records in the event of an extended outage.

Your exact words were, "We'll just have to live with that hole in our records."

Anyway, in response to your query, my plan to rectify this includes fetching a fresh coffee.  That is the entirety of my plan, really.

Hope this helps,
Plonq.

1 - The five-day SLA means that they only have to acknowledge the crisis within five working days.  I don't believe there is an upper limit on how long they can actually take to rectify it.
