We've had this cat for a long time, but I guess I'm still figuring out how she works.
One of her favourite spots lately is on the corner of my desk behind the modem/router. I went so far as to set up a dish of water for her there (in part to discourage her from trying to bury her nose in whatever I am drinking).
I usually give her a thorough petting when I first lift her up there, then she'll grab a long drink of water and settle down to nap. Sometimes she'll awaken and begin batting at my arm for more petting. Often she will bat my arm for attention again immediately after I finish, getting more and more restless. She started doing that again this afternoon, and after a few minutes of this game, I finally played a hunch.
I leaned forward and rested my forehead on the desk on front of her.
Merry immediately started contentedly grooming me around the ear and back of the neck. After a couple minutes of intense grooming, she was done, and promptly settled down. It finally occurred to me that when she got restless after I massaged her temples and scratched her ears a bit that she just wanted me to know that it was her turn.
