The last story I posted went over like a lead balloon, which does not surprise me since it's a bit on the longer side, and I posted it to an effectively dead fandom.

That doesn't mean that I am not a bit disappointed, since I felt like it was one of my better ones for all that. It has garnered a decent number of hits (for one of my stories, anyway), but no likes or comments from anyone other than my beta reader. I suspect it's because people get about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way through, roll their eyes and click out of it again. Oh well - I knew that was a risk when I was writing it.

It's possible that readers are put off by the fact that the story uses a different narrative voice for each division.

Or it might not be as good a story as I thought.

On an unrelated note, when I was checking my mail today, I noticed that I had folders set up by year from 2007 to 2015. I think the mail client created those itself, and I was curious about why it stopped at 2015, but also to see what it had filed in those folders.

When I checked the 2008 folder, I was delighted to find these three pictures in an email that I had apparently sent to myself from work. All three were drawn by an old friend in the Lion King fandom with whom I have long lost touch. A shame, really, because he was an extraordinarily nice person.

This is Jonathon Deer, from a dark, future dystopia that I wrote about when I was experimenting with a more serious style of writing. It was a very grim story on every level, and one for which I had long been intending to write a sequel, though I wrote a couple of other shorts set in the same story universe.

It's Plonq in his natural environment! I think that AO3 supports images, and I am tempted to add this to the big Plonq story I posted last year. In other news, in spite of that story having almost zero hits on AO3, I got a nice comment on it a couple of days ago.
A snow leopard who was born to underachieve.

It's Giblet from the Plonq story universe.
A smart, sassy, gay otter

Missed last call by a few years, and the dance floor is covered in 3 cm of dust.

When I moved over to Dreamwidth a few years ago, it never occured to me to look for any communities. I'd joined a few on Livejournal (all of them long dead now), and the thought that the same things might exist on DW simply never entered my head.

I searched around and finally find a wiki listing a bunch of them. I jumped to a few that interested me, and discovered that they were as dead as the ones over on LJ. The most recently living one I checked last had activity in 2012.

It's not like I can't find the same interests on Reddit, but I liked the smaller, more intimate feel of the LJ communities where everyone knew everyone else.

Oh well. There's no point in dwelling on the past. Reddit is fine.

And LJ/DW serve a different purpose.

Today's picture is shrooms. [personal profile] atara pointed them out to me growing in St John's Cemetery (the one attached to the Anglican cathedral south of our abode).

I don't know if the picture fully credits the size of these fungi, but they sood about 30cm from base to crown.
