Year In Pictures: 2010/12/21 - Cookies!

Today I made cookies and managed to avoid serious injury in the process. If I had been thinking I'd have taken a picture with some kind of winter solstice theme, but I was too busy whiling away my day in idleness (making of cookies notwithstanding) so the cookies will have to suffice.

My tentative plan is to make more cookies tomorrow.

One of the first things I am going to do in the new year is take my Nikon in to get the sensor cleaned. Given what the camera has been through, I am pleased that the only trouble it has given me over the years is some stubborn dust on the sensor. I have been working around the issue by taking occasional reference photos so that the camera can map out the dust, but that is not an ideal solution.

Some of the other cameras I looked at when I purchased this one had self-cleaning sensors, and there are times when I have questioned my wisdom for buying a camera that did not.

It occurs to me

I have gone a week without posting to my journal, and with only one or two updates to Twitter or Facebook. Partly that's because until I finish this Picture a Day project, the bulk of my entires have been pictures, and IMO my pictures for the past week or so have been pretty much a waste of pixels. The only one I took in that stretch that I think might have been worth posting here is this one:



A friend at work asked me to come by with the camera last week to snap some pictures of his "new" condo (it's actually in a building that was probably erected in the late 1800s, or early 1900s). We spent about 90 minutes setting up a variety of shots before we feared that atara (who was enduring the boring process with saint-like patience) would eventually succumb to a combination of hunger and boredom and go feral on us. He bought the condo as an empty corner in the building, so everything in it has been built to his custom specifications. It is filled with wonderful geekery, and nerdiness, and a plethora of what a great idea!

As much as I would love to post some of the pictures from his place, in the interests of protecting his privacy I'll just settle for this lava lamp in one of his south windows.

I'm going to Hell for this.

Who ever thought it would be a good idea to drag your drum set down to a manger and cut some riffs for a newborn? This song has always struck me as a bad idea on so many levels.

Anyway, I don't know how long this will last before Youtube decides that my 7-second clip violates their T.O.S., so enjoy it while you can.

Cayenne-chocolate cookies are a Christmas tradition around here.
