Apparently somebody made themselves busy while we slept.  When I arrived at work this morning there was a new 4 metre statue in front of my building.  I'm pretty sure that it wasn't there when I went home yesterday because a 4 metre statue in front of your building is not an easy thing to miss.

From a distance I thought that it was a native piece, because it appeared to depict ravens, but as I got closer I realized that it wasn't in the traditional native style - either in design or content.  As I approached from the east I could tell that it depicted an anthropomorphic raven of some kind who was pointing at our building.  His expression and demeanour were very tourist-like.  I could also tell that he was carrying something on his back, but from the angle of approach and the early-morning lighting I couldn't tell exactly what it was.  When I finally got close enough to get a better angle on it, the answer was a little stranger than I'd expected.

He had a chair slung over his back on shoulder straps, and sitting on the chair was a she-raven with a cell phone pressed to her ear.

Apparently they went out and erected a series of statues along Portage avenue last night.  From the sound of it, this is the largest (or tallest at least) of them.  It's similar to last year's "Bears on Broadway" exhibit, except on a smaller scale, and longer-running.  These are expected to be up until sometime later in 2007.  I may have to go for a walk at lunch and see if I can spot any more of these intriguing artworks.

Tasteless picture of the day.

Just putting some finishing touches on my work profile in preparation for my Q2 review in about 25 minutes.  I'm tempted to just grab the printout from Q1 and write "SFA" across it for Q2, but I don't suppose that would go over well.  Q2 was definitely a less productive quarter than Q1 - though I managed to complete 1 major and 1 minor project in that time, and made serious headway on a third.

I had a disturbing dream last night that I got turned into a wolf.  I'm sure that wolves are nice enough creatures, but they're pretty low down on my list of things I'd like to be turned into.  I also dreamt about finding a forgotten watermelon patch in my parents' front yard while I was helping [livejournal.com profile] atara to groom the edges.  I wondered idly how somebody could have not noticed a plant laden with ripe, 10-pound watermelons.  Then I got turned into a wolf and things took a strange, tangential turn from there.
