plonq: (Usual dark mood)
We took back the foster cats last night (I miss the kitten already - sigh) and brought home another pair; a mother and her kitten.  They seemed like pretty normal cats at the shelter, and they appeared to be calm, but inquisitive when we put them in their foster room and opened the carrier so that they could explore.

Then we left them alone for an hour or so to adjust.

When [livejournal.com profile] atara went back into the room, the kitten had gone completely insane (and not in the cute kitten way).  He was arching his back, growling and hissing and spitting at anything that moved - including his own mother.  When [livejournal.com profile] atara approached him, he backed up hissing and emptied his bowels on the carpet.  I stopped in about an hour later to see if he had settled down yet, but little Damien (not his real name - more on that in a future post) yowled and growled and hissed at me the whole time I was in the room, while his mother cowered in the corner in fear for her life from her psychopathic offspring.

He was a bit better this morning, but he's still very spooky.  For the most part he hid from us, and only came out very cautiously to explore while we were in there.  He growled at his mother a couple of times before it occurred to him that he was hungry, and that she was still the keeper of the food, so he settled in to nurse.  Isn't that the way with cats though?

"I kill you!  I kill you again!  Harder!  I... mmmmm, food...<purr>"
