Piquant marshmallow dip
Dec. 13th, 2004 02:45 pmTwo steps forward, three steps back. Just as I was making some kick-ass headway on this new project, I encountered a quirk in the data that has turned into a show-stopper.
I spent a fair bit of time, and made a few enquiries to ensure that the problem is with the data, and not with the job that I have written to retrieve it.
Once I confirmed that the greater shortcoming was with the data and not me, I wrote a message to one of the data architects and asked him (paraphrased here), "Is this a bug or a feature?"
It doesn't really matter which answer he gives - all I need is some acknowledgement from him that it's a known issue and then I'll dump the whole thing back in the lap of the department that requested this report in the first place. Maybe they won't care... but I can't shake this mental image involving feces and fans.
