I had a fun encounter this morning after dropping off [livejournal.com profile] atara at her workplace.

I was heading north on Fort when a large, black SUV travelling east on York decided that he needed turn turn left, against the light, right in front of me.  Turning left on a red from a one-way onto a one-way is allowed, but that's predicated on the idea that you look to see if it's clear before you turn.  Fortunately we recently put new tires on the car or this story might have had a slightly different ending.  My sole regret is that it all happened so fast that I didn't get a chance to lean on the horn and flip him the finger.  I was too busy trying to avoid ploughing into the side or back of his shiny new surrogate penis.

It's just as well that I didn't, I suppose, because he was probably packing a gun in there.  It's safe to make assumptions like that when the SUV is sporting a customized license plate that says, "DAWGS 1", and a bumper sticker that reads, "I stand with President George W Bush".  Incidentally he cut off another driver about two blocks further along - again without signalling.  He impressed me on nearly all possible levels.  Fortunately he probably doesn't believe in evolution, so it should take him by surprise when it removes him from the gene pool some day.

Aren't you in Canada? Why would people be sporting Bush stickers there? 0.o

Probably for the reason that [livejournal.com profile] atara was sporting a Kerry-Edwards button during the last presidential election. I guess our border checks weren't tight enough and a Republican managed to sneak through. ;)

The Democrats have a group called "Democrats Abroad" which helps expatriates get hold of ballots, stickers and the like in support of their party. [livejournal.com profile] atara and I spent the evening of the Presidential election camped out at their headquarters, watching the results come trickling in (one could best describe the mood that evening as "somber"). I'm sure that the Republicans have something similar up here.

Do plates indicate the province up there? Was the driver from Alberta?

Sadly, no. They were Manitoba plates.

I don't like 4WD's...

One of those forced me off the road one winter...
Met him on a narrow road, and as is the ususal with those monsters, he couldn't keep to his side of the road and I had to brake and try to get as close to the edge as possible...
I ended up in a VERY deep ditch and he didn't even stop and check up on me.
Took a couple of hours to get a tow truck.

Most of those who drive 4WDs can't handle them, and if you know how to REALLY drive, a normal Front-wheel drive will get you just about anywhere...
